In the Operations menu, there's a Pre/Post-roll Playback setting...did you change it possibly? Also, when I record with a pre-roll, I don't really think about it consciously, but I think I press both record and play on the control surface, not just play. It won't record before your punch-point, and even if it does, there's undo.
