Wondering if any of you know about the back end, creation more specifically.
I'm thinking general pans in maybe a 7.1 mix are generalized across a larger set of speakers to give more localization and of course a richer experience to those outside of the theatrical sweet spot?
Not sure converting current dub stages to 64 cone theaters is financially viable so is this more play with phase?

What would you like to know?
The BASE format is actually 9.1
Left, Center, Right,
Left Side, Right Side,
Left Back, Right Back,
Left Overhead, Right Overhead,
LFE
Then, Audio 'Objects' are added to the mix. These Objects can be panned to ANY of up to 64 individual speakers in the room. These objects can be panned through an array of speakers, or individually addressed. It's really flexible.
There is a documents tab on this web page:

Very detailed, but still east to follow.
Hope this helps,
