I'm not sure how you've got the grooves starting at C8. As it happens I did a clean installation of BFD3 this week and the default factory mapping has the grooves starting at C6.

By default you should be able to trigger everything, drums and grooves from Pro Tools so yes, it would make sense to remap the grooves.
