If the BIOS does not support booting off a NVMe drive then it cannot be done... remember other drives are AHCI... entire different software interface to the drive. That is the usual NVMe boot issue with older computers.


And the Crucial M.2 MX300 is nothing like this drive. It is an old relatively slow SATA, not PCIe, interface drive. M.2 can support SATA and multiple configurations of PCIe, which can then run AHCI or more efficient NVNe over that PCIe link. Any computer should be able to boot a SATA drive, but not relevant to the OP here. Samsung 860 Evo is also a slow SATA drive.
