I"m a bit confused about the OS compatibility. it stats here

that 10.6.7 is the last version supported by HD 8.1.1, though I have read that hd8.1.1 works up to 10.9.5.
I'd really like to install at least 10.7.5 so that I can rule out the possibility of waves plugins causing the lag and I can get tech support.
and then there is the issue of the errors on the boot drive. Rather than install 10.6.8 on the same boot drive, I think I'd like to start from scratch on a new boot drive.
