Hi

Here is a comparison chart with all UA plugins and products

http://www.uaudio.com/support/uad/co...nce-chart.html

You see that the Duo will be about half the power of Quad so yeah, if you only need a few plugins at a time why not. Remember though that this plugin chart is a "general" chart depending on which plugins. For instance you can only have like 12 API channel strips at once and then the system is maxed out.

Take the 1176 Rev A says 32 stereo and thats nice BUT after 32 of those you are full on the Quad.

We have the Apollo systems on our Macbook Pro Retina with SSD drives and 8GB ram and the Apollo quad maxes out at approx 37-38 plugins which is really [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ty compared to what we "thought" we would get out so thats why we purchased another one called the Apollo 16 for ins and outs aswell.

All depending on your computer speed and RAM etc how many of the UAD 2 plugins you can use. It says all that in the bottom of the chart. If you have an slower computer you will not get that many plugins regardless of what UAD2 chart says.

Just food for thought
Best Wishes
Christopher
