Why? The point of alignment is phase. If the difference is great enough (timing delays), then phase alignment is unnecessary. We get spatial cues from delay/phase (besides level and reflections). You make these things work for you. Overheads are meant to capture the full drum set “close”. Room mics capture the bigger space (and therefore are delayed enough to not have massive phase issues.) if your close mics are aligned to overheads, then they are already aligned to each other. And reinforce the overhead signal.
