I don't have an M1 to check, but initial install on my 2019 iMac resulted in similar behavior. I then downloaded/ran the uninstaller from the previous version and ran the new installer again and it worked correctly. I have since been unable to repro the failure with different combos of driver versions so it seemed to be unique to my system (which sees a lot of installs/uninstalls as I'm testing and troubleshooting). Have you tried either running the new installer again, or running the previous uninstaller first?
