Yep - just 2 Instrument Tracks is all you need to test.

My guess – as you’re seeing some meter activity, but hearing nothing, is that you’re using a Keyboard Controller, without doing your Pro Tools MIDI Studio Setup. If so, from the Pro Tools Menu bar, go to:

Setup>MIDI>MIDI Studio Setup
Hit the “Create” button
Instrument name will read: “New Instrument 1”
Select your Keyboard Controller from the “Manufacturer” drop-down arrow – if it’s not listed, select “None” at the very top of the list
Select the Output Port from the drop-down arrow
Close MIDI Studio Setup
Hit “Save”

Also - in Pro Tools Setup>Preferences>MIDI, select (under Default Through Instrument) – “First selected MIDI track” - Hit “OK”

Close Pro Tools (Alt + F4)
Restart computer
Launch Pro Tools
Load Xpand!2 with one to four Presets
Hit a note on your Keyboard Controller to audition sounds
