Not necessarily. (Why is everybody always concerned with "how many plugins can I run"?) Plugin count is usually CPU dependent.

Higher buffers. Most of the USB interfaces can only go as low as 128, where most FW interfaces can go as low as 64.

M-Audio have quite a few more FW interfaces than just the 1814 and 410.
