Thanks, Darryl... that did it. I suspected that might be the solution, but trashing prefs is something I save as a last resort. Maybe every day should begin with that, before getting started, in order to stay ahead of this garbage DAW: trash the prefs, trash the prefs, trash the prefs... Build a list for myself of my prefs settings, trash the prefs first thing each day, then go in and reset them according to my list.

Pro Tools is definitely not the place for artists or anyone who requires an uninterrupted creative flow. PT is a destroyer of creativity.
