Upgrade from Mbox Mini to Mbox - Mac

I've just ordered an Mbox 3g (b/c price drop) to get 96k (I'm presently on an Mbox Mini 3g). I'm on an iMac with Mtn. Lion. Do I need to uninstall the Mbox Mini drivers before connecting the Mbox? ...

Mac Mini - Video/Graphics Chip/Card

Just curious . . .

Regardless of the options (iMac, Macbook, etc.), will a new, maxed-out Mac Mini perform poorly with PT LE 7.3 (Mbox 2 Pro) b/c of it's limited video memory/sharing?

I'd...

PC -> MAC - Q about Monitor Resolution & Mac Mini

Howdy,

Long time PC user here. The last Mac I owned was a Power Mac (mid 90's). Anyway, I was thinking about switching back, but I have two questions for you Mac PT users.

1. Can I use my...

Re: Recording & Mixing @ 88.2k -- Limits?

Ok, I must be mixed up then. The Octopre allows for 4 I/O @ 88.2+ using one lightpipe (instead of 8). I'm guessing the ADAT format is not the same as a universal "optical." Funny, cause I actually...

Re: Recording & Mixing @ 88.2k -- Limits?

Hmmm. First I've heard of that. That could be bad (I like to use room mics, "trash" mics, etc. when recording drums). You're saying 10 I/O, so that's a combo of 5 in's and/or 5 out's, or is it 10...

Re: Recording & Mixing @ 88.2k -- Limits?

Thanks for the replies.

You know, I'm actually thinking about building the "under $600" system. My current machine is an Athlon XP 2200 w/ 1 GB RAM. If I double that processing power and then...

Recording & Mixing @ 88.2k -- Limits?

Howdy folks,

It's been a while since I've been on here. My 001 is still going strong, so I haven't had the need to post for a while. Anyway, I'm thinking about upgrading to a 002r and a new...

Re: Good condenser mics for overheads?

I [bleep] you not - MXL 603's. A pair can easily be had for $150 new (if you need a contact let me know). Peeps can laugh all they want, but the 603's can hold up to the best. I challenge you and...

Re: Getting a Good Snare Sound

If the 57 isn't working, then something else must be off. The 57 is a pretty flat, unpolished representation of what's going on - and - it handles dynamics well. It's as vanilla as vanilla gets. ...

dr_38,

Why don't you mix them, publish them on the site, and then we can give you some possible directions? Who knows - maybe your mixing skills are better than you give yourself credit for. ...

Re: Ref Monitors???

For mixing, I'm loving these new Event ALP 5's. Very flat, un-hyped, and true. If you're looking for nearfield, they've got my vote.

Re: Hi-Hat and Cymbals

Well, there's usually so much hi-hat in the overheads that you shouldn't have to push the actual hi-hat track up too hot. Personally, I like to compress it just a little (2:1) using the Waves C1...

Re: 44.1? 48? 96? 16bit? 24bit?

I judge by my destination source.

* Always record 24-bit.

* If the final media is CD and/or MP3 and you're mixing digital (Pro Tools, etc.), then 44.1k is fine.

* If the final media is CD...

Re: monitor sound discrepancy huh?

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that on the Mbox (using the "zero-latency" mix knob) the input signal *that you hear while actually tracking* comes before the conversion/writing to digital. ...

Re: monitor sound discrepancy huh?

Outputs on the POD 2.0 and the PODxt (not xt Live) are balanced lines (TRS). Choose your line level selector on your Mbox and increase your gain from the POD (not the pre). Also, if using the POD...

Re: Recording Drums

I suggest a used 001 from ebay. Probably cost you about $300. Other than that you'll need a mixer. Mbox is not suited for recording drums properly.

Re: Making POD (or other DI) Guitars Sound More Re

You are right - amps are best; however, if you're mixing a project with a POD, etc. track on it, the AC2 trick really helps to smooth things out with a warm and subtle saturation.

Making POD (or other DI) Guitars Sound More Real

I recently discoverd this on the McDSP website and it works rather well. If you have Analog Channel, try this on any POD, Amplitube, and/or any other DI recorded electric guitar track:
