Thanks for that information Scott, very helpful!
Using video files and second monitor is the way to go, I hated capturing, wasted time that the system could be used for edit/mixing!

What used G5 model would be cheap but good to get as an upgrade from my G4? What would a reasonable price be?

I'm seeing various G5s on Ebay ranging in price from 350-1400+

Is it worth paying...

Yeah, Igniter. That was the more expensive Aurora card that was compatible with OSX. I suppose I could find one used now though.

EarHole, I think you're right about the PCI slots. I'll have to verify that if I upgrade to a G5. I typically have to capture video from tape or DVD....

Absolutely, I do it every day. Machine Control is designed specifically for controlling decks in the manner you are referring to. .You can arm tracks, set in/out points, have Pro Tools be the master...

I finally figured out a way around by letting Pro Tools be the master while the digi bita chased instead of the opposite which is how I always had done it. That worked fine.

I just loaded some video into my session (AV XL) and all was good. When I went to load some more in, I started getting the message "Pro Tools couldn't lock to Time Code in time for video recording" ...

aux inputs

Do the 1/4" TRS Aux Inputs on the back of the Control 24 come up anywhere on the C24 monitor section as an analog input? I can't figure out how to monitor something plugged into these inputs. I know...

Fairlight tech support

I almost always cut the breaths out of VO or narration tracks in audio post for film and especially TV. It's less distracting and cleaner sounding.
