Have you checked the output of the tracks that you can't hear?
Sounds like maybe they were routed to a bus in order to print that mix that you were able to hear.

Works on my Dual G5.
It takes a few seconds for the samples to load but other than that, its been ok.
I always print them to audio when I mix though.
I'm sure a Mac Pro would be so much faster...

I would probably say make sure you record to a compatible external firewire hard drive instead of your system drive.
