I've never had a sluggish GUI issue on Mac or Win, several studios, several Pro Tools versions. I doubt that this particular version update is what fixed your issue, but more likely a fresh install...

Got this answer back from the Audient Help Desk:

Hi,
You can run the EVO 16 at buffer 32 to 2048 at 44.1/48 or 32 to 4096 at 88.2/96k.
