Back in the early days of PT the BTD was as fast as the computer could process it. It was not real time, and you did not hear the audio as it bounced.

I always listen to my mix before I BTD.
In the early days of Pro Tools, the BTD was not audible and was as fast as your computer could process it. Somewhere along the way, they made it real time...

I don't think you can get enough level out of an SM57 to drive the line input without going through some kind of preamplifier first.
There is a big difference between a 1/4" line input and a 1/4"...

Do your "active studio monitors" have TRS inputs? If so, then use a TRS cable. If your monitors are TR, then use a TR cable.
