Checked the volume in the Workspace window. Could not find anything that related to the playback/transfer settings.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried a machanic's pickup magnet. They are very powerful for their size and you can get them small enough to fit a TRS socket at most auto shops in Oz; not to sure where you would pick one...
