Firewire Hard Drive Recommendations?

I just got Le up and running and now I need to get a new HDD. I have two Firewire ports open and although I don't know how to tell if it's 400 or 800, I am looking to get a HDD to record and playback...

I cannot record anything into Pro Tools because when I hit record all I got was a big line of nothing because nothing could get in over the line noise.

Well if I disconnect the KVM, my keyboard and mouse won't work, they are USB also and I need ports for those too.
