Re: Isn't PTLE sample accurate?

PT LE is among something like 13 DAW's that rendered sample-identical results from a mixdown, meaning either 13 different mixing engines, mostly from completely different companies, have the exact...

Re: How would you rate these preamps??

there's a HUGE difference between a tube on the output stage v/s BEING PART OF THE SIGNAL PATH and GAIN STAGE!

Actually the "output stage" of a preamp is very much part of the signal path, and...

Re: Mastering in-session

Imho, it's pretty difficult or impossible to master as you mix. It's like trying to ice a cake before it's baked.

This is actually a perfect analogy for my argument. You can make the icing...

Mastering in-session

After some hasty projects some years back where I just put some mastering plugs in the master fader, I've taken to mastering in-session, literally putting the mastering plugs in my start-up template....

Re: How loud the export mix should look in Winamp spectrum analyzer ?

Peak limiting shouldn't be a multiple-application process. Noise reduction and compression are examples of multiple-application processes because of their subjective psycho-acoustic properties, but...

Re: Record the mix on an audio track

To answer the questoin (regardless of its usefulness), you change the outputs of all tracks to a pair of internal buses, create a new stereo audio track with the inputs set to the same internal...

Re: DBX-386 for digi0o2

I own and can recommend the DBX 386 as a good preamp pair for expanding the inputs of a 002. The FMR RNP is cleaner, but the 386 has the digital output and can be found used for around $250. The...

Re: How would you rate these preamps??

First of all, the ART MPA is not a tube preamp, it is a solid state preamp with a tube circuit, just like all the other 'tube preamps' under about $1500. I know this because one 12AX7 doesn't have...

Re: 96 KHz Sample Rate ... How ???

That's a lot of resources devoted to an inaudible octave. I'd rather improve the capturing and processing of frequency ranges people can actually hear.

"AD converter designers can not generate...

Re: Recommendation for Laptop Configuration

Screw the FW800 interface. FW400 has all the bandwidth you need for the ext HD plus compliance with PT. If you really want to use FW800 or eSATA there's some special utilities that allow that,...

Re: Pre-amps... help me choose please.

I have a DBX 386, bought it 7 years ago, back then they were going used for ~$275. At that price they're great, and there seems to be several on Craigslist. The preamps are decent, the tube...

Re: New Comp Virus From PT???

If you mean "access violation" the #1 cause is poorly cracked plug-ins. You did pay for those plugs, right?

Re: Disk usage discussion

Lies. The throughput of any SATA 7200rpm vastly supercedes the demands of a 32-track mix. Look into bloat in the OS that gets in the way of the timely accessing of audio from the drive. Google "xp...

Re: Hard time compressing snare !!!

I took a quick crack at it, and I'd say the main problem is that the toms and kick have way too much snap, and it makes the snare seem really weak by comparison, when it's not really that bad. ...

Re: Hard time compressing snare !!!

It needs more snap, and there's only so much you can get from an EQ. You should really use a transient modifier like Waves Trans-X put a good spike up front. You'll have to adjust reverb as well,...

Re: is it possible to record 16 digital tracks ?

Actually I'm pretty sure you can use an M-Audio ProFire 2626 with M-Powered. Double check that, it has 26 channels of i/o including two ADAT inputs, PT MP is limited to 18 i/o, I don't think it...

Re: are eSata audio drives supported?

Actually there is no bridge chip for eSATA. It's just SATA going outside the CPU - same cable, just different plugs on the ends, designed to survive more insertions. If you're using a PCMCIA card...

Re: So long Mac...PC hello

First make sure your plug-ins are available for XP and can be transfered for free or at a reasonable cost. Forget Vista, it won't be dependable or fully supported for years to come.

Nothing personal, but I've never seen replies miss the point any more.

Ultra cheap monitors for clients with crappy stereos

Surely I'm not the first to encounter this problem. Sometimes a client gives such contradictory instructions on how they want a mix changed I have to find out what they're listening to, only to find...
