I've owned the Command|8 and now use a PMix I/O. I also switched to Logic, so it's been a while since I used ProTools.

Fact is, the PMix will work as a control surface for any version of...

No it doesn't need it, but it will act as an audio I/O for it. I use the PMI/O with Logic Pro without any Digidesign-branded hardware.

Long ago I posted an Ableton Live template online, but I deleted it. I also sold my C|8 a while back so I can't recreate it. I also tried to use my C|8 with Logic...

Yes, it emulates HUI so it works with all versions of PT. The audio i/o portion will only work with ProTools M-Powered, obviously.

ProjectMix emulates HUI, so it works with all versions of PT. The audio I/O portion obviously is only used by ProTools M-Powered.

Yes.

It's a pain. You can basically set it up so that the pan pots, faders, and mute and solo buttons send the appropriate info, but nothing is returned to the C|8, meaning the control surface is...

Yes, it works with all versions of Pro Tools that support HUI. PT 7 TDM, LE, and MP.

Do what I did...sell your Command|8 and get an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O. It works with everything, including ProTools.

The Command|8 has better build quality, IMO. Also the faders and buttons are quieter, which is nice. The Command|8 only works well with ProTools, however, so if you use any other apps like Reason...

I am in a transition phase of moving from PTLE to Logic Pro. I have a dual 1.25 G4 and an 001. Don't expect the smoothest experience using your Digi hardware, as the Core Audio drivers are lacking....
