I am running Pro Tools 12.5, and have been since it first came out. My software updates and support plan expired almost 4 years ago. I went onto my Avid Product page for the first time in a long...

Re: Backwards

This worked like a charm. I used a JBL M-patch Active to route the signals and it's much better. Thank you!

Backwards

I have a situation that is backwards from anything else I've ever heard of. I'm using Pro Tools 12.5 on a Windows 10 computer. I've used this same system with minor upgrades for about 4 years. I took...

Re: SSD + 7,200 RPM drive

Thank you musicman691. Formatting won't be a problem; I actually know how to do that. Like you, I pick up the occasional commission in the studio, but I don't really solicit any work. I am, after...

SSD + 7,200 RPM drive

I just bought a SSD to install as my C drive in my Windows 10 computer. My data/audio drive is a 7,200 RPM drive, already in the computer. It just dawned on me to ask, will these two be compatible?...

Questions about computer monitors

I have a couple simple questions that I'd like to get opinions about:

1. Use one computer monitor or two?

2. If one, for edit and mix screens, use:
A. Over and under?
B. Side by side?
C....

Re: Back to the Future??

I should have also mentioned that both my system fan setting and CPU fan setting is on "Silent." Doesn't anyone have an idea/suggestion about my switching back to the i5?

Re: Back to the Future??

Here is the Sandra Report I couldn't get to when I posted the original message. The only thing that's changed since I generated this is my version of Windows 10 has been upgraded.

SiSoftware...

Back to the Future??

I'm running PT 12.5. A couple years ago, I upgraded the processor in my Windows 10 studio computer from an i5-3350P (Quad core 3.10, 4 threads, 6M cache) to an i7-3770 (Quad core 3.40, 8 threads, 8M...

Defrag

Does anybody know--I mean really know--what Avid's official position is on defragging? I did a search on this and found some opinions, but nothing about what Avid says about it. I'm running Pro Tools...

Re: Windows 10 background apps and programs

I didn't realize there were different error codes for this same message, so I'll keep an eye out. I do know it happens both with and without my internet adapter connected. Thanks!

Re: Windows 10 background apps and programs

Hi Albee1952...er, I mean Dave. (Can I call you that?) Sorry, my attempt at humor. I promise I won't quit my day job. Anyway, I don't know the error code I get. I'm not at the studio now (nor all...

Re: Windows 10 background apps and programs

Thanks to The Weed. That's a link to an ambitious post you sent. I'm not certain that I even understood all of it. Had I known how deeply I'd have to get into computers when I started with Pro Tools...

Re: Windows 10 background apps and programs

Thanks for your response, junkgear. Yes, I did the optimizations several years ago when my computer was a Windows 7 computer. When I did the Windows 10 upgrade, I went back through and did them...

Re: Windows 10 background apps and programs

Thanks for the info, seriousfun. That's a good idea of how to check out the CPU draw. I've done all the optimizations recommended by Avid for a PC, but this still crops up occasionally. I don't have...

Re: Windows 10 background apps and programs

I'm with you, YYR123. I'd like to disable Cortana, but I haven't found any way to do it. Microsoft has always set Windows up with a lot of stuff running in the background in order to speed things up,...

Windows 10 background apps and programs

I'm running Pro Tools 12.5 on a Windows 10 computer. Occasionally Pro Tools stops and I get that pesky window telling me I'm running out of CPU power. I monitor my CPU workload pretty closely when...

Automatic dithering in PT 12.5?

I normally record 88.2 and 24 bit in Pro Tools 12.5. I've been using Pro Tools for almost 6 years in a project studio, so while I'm far from an expert, I'm not a newbie either. A few weeks ago I was...
