Re: G5 vs G4?

One other thing to consider is the G5's loss of a PCI slot. I'm currently running a mix-3, need SCSI and don't feel like buying an expensive PCI expansion chassis (which may not be compatible with...

Re: G5 not as fast as Apple says ??

This whole topic is laughable. The only thing that matters to me is how well a given machine runs Pro Tools. I use PC's for almost everything I do, including running the business, video editing, web...

Re: Mix + second hand values?

My mix3 is rockin and will continue to do so for at least another year. I'm cranking out better mixes this year on my d8b and PT mix3 than I was on an ssl with a studer a couple of years ago. I've...

Some of these questions are repeated but...

1. Do you use multiple drives ?
2. How are they attached?
3. Are you networked ?
4. Do you use templates when starting a new session ?
5. At the...

Does anyone know of a good place to find and download sounds or samples, particularly drum sounds. Looking for free but willing to pay for good sounds. Thanks

Re: When will 6.0 be Core Audio

I think that may be why you see Digidesign trying harder to push Windows support for plug-ins and such and why there seems to be greater parity in platforms now. I say bring it on, I'd love to be...

Re: What\'s better two 17\'s or one 20"

I guess I'm kind of wierd, I like 1 big monitor for Pro Tools. I never need to see the mixer and edit window at the same time, I just have the edit window show i/o,inserts & sends. I don't like...

Re: what do I need to make .vox files?

I'm not sure about the Mac but I know soundforge on the PC will save in this format. It's a telephony standard.

Re: where are my #@&%ing audio files?

One other comment, I'd recommend always having 2 copies on seperate hard drives or other media of whatever you are working on. Too much work goes into making your music to loose it all when a hard...

Re: where are my #@&%ing audio files?

When you bought your firewire drive did you reformat it or just plug it in and start working off of it ? Do you see the proper icons next to your files on the external drive or are they generic...

Re: Delay Compensation - Another Perspective

I used to use SSL's AXIOM MT quite a lot, and no they did not have any type of automatic delay compensation. I believe they have implemented ADC in the newest version. Their excuse at the time was...

Re: where are my #@&%ing audio files?

Open your session, click on the audio menu above the regions list and select "show full paths and filenames" This should show you where your files have been stored. Also be sure to check your disk...

Re: Outboard Gear Opionions

The orville is great but I'd suggest you check out a TC Fireworx. It's a lot less expensive ( maybe you can get some other gear too!!) and extremely flexible. It definately allows for some wild FX....

Re: dual boot on new 800 G4 or OS9 only ? USE THIS TOPIC

Both OS's are on the same partition exactly as shipped by Apple. I don't need OS X but if it really doesn't hurt anything to have it there it might be easier if I decide to upgrade to 6.0 next year....

dual boot on new 800 G4 or OS9 only ?

I've got a new (last generation leftover) 800 G4 powermac and it's already setup to dual boot between OS X and OS 9. I'm transferring my Mixplus system from an older B&W G3 and adding a third Mix...

Re: Did Masterlist get updated at AES?

Mark,

Of course hardware and software go hand in hand and nobody buys software without hardware to run it. This does not mean that the software must always be bundled with the hardware however,...

Re: Digi at AES

Well, personally I'll stick with them as long as their products are the best solution for me but there are no loyalties here that's for sure. When someone comes out with something that's better (and...

Re: Copy a song section to another part of the arrangement?

Assuming it was either recorded with either electronic instruments from a sequencer or recorded to a click track it's very simple to set up a tempo map and use the grid function in pro tools. Simply...
