Most likely same deal as above, Alto was selling the full Carbon with no software for under $2k, luckily found out about booting them into Pre mode while the deal was still on.

Using a pair of Carbons, one booted into Carbon Pre mode by holding the input button on power up, plus a MOTU 16A for an additional 8 i/o over adat at 96k.

I'd keep the PCM70 and insert it on DSP channels as Kevin describes, the only AAX DSP reverbs available are a far cry from a PCM70, keep it inserted at mix and Tiled Room that snare all day...

Thanks for confirming this, I picked up one of those re-packs with no software for $1,900 and it works perfectly in both stand-alone or Pre mode as an additional 8 i/o channels.

I always use mic inputs 5-8 first due to their adjustable impedance, kinda funny that you've done exactly the opposite. With the new Pre unit, I'm kinda annoyed by the replication of that design...

I use the 8 line outs on DB25 plus both ADAT outs feeding a MOTU 16A at 96k for D/A. Generally, the 8 line ins on DB25 are enough for capturing stems back.
