Re: Carbon - Intel Mac mini vs M1/M1x Mac mini

I've fixed the link.
I'm not going to argue, as I can't prove the point either way. I don't think you are correct, however, and if it was me, I'd try to downgrade it, given that in the UK you can...

Re: Carbon - Intel Mac mini vs M1/M1x Mac mini

These guys have an even more comprehensive set of instructions. I will agree that this is not for the feint-hearted and I'm not clear on what you're left with if it doesn't work - it's very possible...

Re: Carbon - Intel Mac mini vs M1/M1x Mac mini

You may have to downgrade the firmware first, as described here.

Unfortunately I don't have a suitable Mac here to...

Guide here. Lots of blather about backing up, then the actual instructions.

Re: Carbon - Intel Mac mini vs M1/M1x Mac mini

There's Internet Recovery. That may use Big Sur. Otherwise you will have to download Big Sur and put it on a USB stick and boot from that. There are guides all over the place.
Those are the three...

Re: Carbon - Intel Mac mini vs M1/M1x Mac mini

EDIT:OK - see all the posts below before you proceed. This is more of a risk that it used to be. You may need to erase and reformat the entire disk, and install firmware using another Mac and Apple...

Re: When your internet is down so is ProTools

Well, who would have thought a local application needed 6 different server communications to run. What a ridiculous arrangement.

Only Avid can tell you what's on the end of each of those URLs -...

Re: Major recording timeline placement issues with Carbon

Matt, the disconnect issues existed before 2021.10, so I suspect they are a platform issue (i.e. which Mac / ethernet/ TB you are using) rather than a particular PT version. They seem to happen...

Re: Turn Off or Leave On

Rey,

This is a user forum, so although Avid employees drop in from time to time, if you need to ask them a question directly, you need to raise a support case.

I don't understand why your NI...

Re: From Win10 PT20 to Win11 PT21?

So, when it doesn't work, which will you blame - the OS upgrade or the PT upgrade? How will you troubleshoot it?

Just change one thing at once.

Re: When your internet is down so is ProTools

A bit like subscription software, this is an insidious problem that is very hard to stop. Even software which has a local license seems to go to the internet to check that you aren't using it on...

Re: M1 Pro or MBP 2019 i7?

The biggest problem with the MBP 2019 i7 is the fans coming on, in particular if you have an external screen connected. The i7 is better than the i9 for almost no difference in real-world performance...

Re: M1 Pro or MBP 2019 i7?

You keep asking the same question. Are you hoping for a different answer?

There are now about 10 threads on this subject.

What do you want to know that isn't already covered?

M1 Max only...

Re: New Mac - M1 vs Mac Pro 2019

-actually - if it already has Apple RAM, then you need to work out if the cheapest thing to do is add two more sticks of Apple RAM, or take it all out and buy 6 sticks of something else. Although...

Re: New Mac - M1 vs Mac Pro 2019

[forum is only letting me post one sentence at a time!]

It's worth getting 6 (or 12) RAM DIMMS, which uses the triple-channel architecture for more speed. But don't buy Apple RAM - after market...

Re: New Mac - M1 vs Mac Pro 2019

The 16 core CPU still has quite a high clock speed and there is a big price jump to the next step. There's a limit of 768GB RAM up to that point, and the 24 and 28 core can take 1.5TB.

Re: New Mac - M1 vs Mac Pro 2019

The Pro Vega II is overkill but it does have a lot of TB ports - four.
The only downsides are (1) it takes up 4 slots so if you have a lot of cards (UAD, HDX) you've limited how much space you have...

Re: Pro Tools 2021.10 on Mac

I said the 7.1 (16-core) was close to the M1 Max in processing power. It is, in my testing. It's clearly totally different in terms of expandability - RAM, SSD, external connectivity etc.
In terms...

Re: New Mac - M1 vs Mac Pro 2019

It's not fixed. It can't be fixed, at least not properly.

From Big Sur on, all machines with a T2 chip or an M1 chip cannot boot if the internal disk is fried/broken/bricked. So, in the old days...

Re: New Mac - M1 vs Mac Pro 2019

There's about 10 threads already on this subject, but as I have a Mac Pro 7.1 16-core and a 16" MBP M1 Max, I'll write it again.

The CPU processing power of the two platforms is about the same....

Re: AirPods Pro as Playback Engine

Re: Pro Tools 2021.10 on Mac

Base PT runs ok on Monterey on M1 Max but the Avid Complete Bundle doesn't work and Eucon is a total disaster. Things are so bad that I'm trying the betas, which I have never done before.

I'm...

Re: Pro Tools 2021.10 on Mac

I believe M1 Macs are now supported on Big Sur 11.6 and PT 2021.10

Clearly this does not include M1 Pro...
