if you do get a 192, it needs the Digital card to...

if you do get a 192, it needs the Digital card to sync with the HD I/O and you may have to update the firmware

The HD I/O box is 16 paths, in your case that is 16 analog in and out
Now you can mult output paths so say analog 1/2 is also the AES/SPDIF on the chassis or you can put the optical ports into ADAT...
