Re: IT\'S ALIVE!!!

Finaly fixed the activation thing... pain in the ASS... looks like only my NIC is fried, all in all best case scenario for a PSU that blew as bad as mine did. (loud pop, bright flash, lots of stinky...

IT\'S ALIVE!!!

It took re-seating the video cards and ram 3 times each, but it's now getting to the BIOS prompt. The tech told me that about 80% of PC's that are thrown out just need something re-seated. Normally...

Re: WE HAVE A QUAD DOWN!!

Got my power supply back, still won't boot! The motherboard must be shot, and there's no way to determine if the CPU's are shot too since the shop doesn't have any socket 940 boards kicking around....

Re: WE HAVE A QUAD DOWN!!

Yes, this is the first reported quad here, built Dec 5th 2005. I actually had it up and running before folks started posting speculations about how well they work. The Opteron quad was brought to...

Re: WE HAVE A QUAD DOWN!!

Hey! No salt on the wounds plz!

Yeah, I paid ~$1350cdn for each of my 270's, I see a pair went recently for $115usd on eBay, and the freekin dollar's at par now.

But my boys got life left...

WE HAVE A QUAD DOWN!!

So I'm turning on my AMD quad, and there's this loud snap, a bright flash, and some stinky smoke. Damn PSU went poo-poo. I'm in the process of getting it replaced under warranty, but I still don't...

Re: 1st quad still chugging along

OMFG. Here's a bizarre coincidence, as I was typing that last post, I heard a thunder clap. I've got my rig on a UPS, so I pulled the plug, and shut it down on the UPS power. Not 5 seconds later,...

Re: 1st quad still chugging along

Which Fans are you using for your CPU's?

The ones that came with the CPU's. I'm thinking an upgrade is in order. They've treated me well, only fair that I should return the favor!

1st quad still chugging along

Today a client noticed I was running a pretty heavy mix including 6 convolution reverbs, and he asked how much CPU I had left, to which I replied "around 70 percent", which sent his jaw to the floor....

Re: The Allenstein Quadzilla Machine

Congrats on assembling the first Octzilla Diginerd!

I must point out that 40 tracks with 5 D-Verbs each is only 200 instances of D-Verb, dual mono
or not. The D-Verb engine draws the same CPU...

Re: Quadzilla Headache and 001

One reason the 4th GB of ram comes in handy is because the CPU with only one 1GB dimm can only access the ram at SDR speed, not DDR speed, so the speed is cut in half. That's why they're installed...

Re: Quadzilla Rack

Ruudus: I bought my Silverstone LC13 because it's got thick aluminum corners for the hinges of the door on the front. A pair of rack ears could easily be made with 1" angled steel or aluminum, and...

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine *Shane*

Generally to track with any reasonable number of plugs applied to the mix, you have to mix the tracks being recorded to the mix with a separate analog mixer. This requires either outboard preamps or...

Quick OT: Sound Forge on a quad

So Son'y site says Sound Forge 8.0 is hyperthreaded and multiple CPU compatible, but I can only get two CPU cores working, and that's only if I run two processes at once. Having done that, I can't...

Re: New Quad on the block!

While we're on the subject of disabling LAN ports, on the K8N-DL when I disable a LAN controller in the BIOS, the next time I boot into setup that LAN controller is gone, and cannot be enabled! I...

Re: About to take the Mac Pro PLUNGE

Funny how people are looking here for Mac Pro advice. Still it's a good idea because the software has to support both dual CPU mobo's and dual-core CPU's, and in the case of PT for XP that support...

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine *Shane*

Thanks Shane, normally it takes a lot less than a computer diagnostic to reveal the fact that I'm a bonehead, but it shouldn't be as easy as a web forum post

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine *Shane*

Say Shane, I don't suppose you could correct the first post in this thread? It reads like I made a bonehead error with the system clock when the cause of my D-Verb discrepancy remains unexplained. ...

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine *Shane*

I believe I am among a chorus of early AMD Quad purchasers who are saying "WHEW!" at those MacPro numbers. Getting creamed by a box that cost half of mine after just nine months would be a tough...

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine *3J Quad Debunke

As long as you've got both CPU's seeing DDR ram (check setup screen at startup) you're getting the most out of it.

Trueverb test anyone?

I'm keen to compare Trueverb tests, since my quad seems to cheat with D-Verbs. I got 123 Trueverbs with none of the time dilation effects I get with D-Verb. So far the only other posted Trueverb...

Time Dilation attributed to D-Verb

I've done new tests with everything re-installed from scratch, and I'm still getting that time dilation effect that allows for 400+ D-Verbs. Here's an interesting pair of screenshots:

Re: Allenstein Quadzilla Machine

UPDATE

I've come to the conclusion that XP just isn't a reasonable OS for multi-booting. I had XP on two partitions of the same drive, and the first boot partition corrupted. Re-installing XP on...
