Re: Best Desktops for PTLE

Just a guess, but maybe clearing the CMOS would get you back into the BIOS setup. The manual should tell you how to do it; it's usually a jumper on the motherboard.

AFX:
There's no pass-through, monitoring is handled through PTLE. No CD player in PTLE, though an external CD player can be connected to the 'Alt Src' input.

A compressor is sometimes nice, but...

Re: Memory!

You can look it up at www.crucial.com. (http://www.crucial.com.)

That board can got to 3Gbytes, in 3 slots.
1Gbyte modules are really expensive, I'd go for three 512M PC3200 modules, total of...

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00

I don't think I've heard of ANY PC RTAS plugins which won't run on ALL PTLE hardware. Plugins have basically nothing to do with hardware.

On the Mac, the OS 9 -> OS X switch caused some plugins to...

4.92 is close enough to 5v - but you still might have a flaky power supply. Unfortunately, it's really hard to tell. Some people just replace the PS when all else fails to make the system...

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00

At 2078, you're already running it faster than spec. Maybe you could go a little higher, but you won't gain much performance. If it's stable, you could just be happy.

Running at a true 2.5G...

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00

It's probably not the ram. Increasing the CPU multiplier doesn't do anything to the RAM. If you can't get it stable with a multiplier above 12.5, improved cooling and/or higher CPU voltage are...

Barton vs. T-Bred
Has anybody here done a direct comparison between a Barton and a T-bred, running all the same hardware and settings? In other words, everything the same except swapping the CPU?...

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00

Pro Tools LE 6.1 is *definitely* multithreaded - but that doesn't guarantee improved performance using a multiprocessor system (as you've seen.)

Re: Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00

well, I just found a place that listed 12v L1A, so I ordered a couple of those. I wonder if newegg really has 24v fans, and if so, why?
