I believe Peter's issue is very specific to Pro Tools having a SWOD (spinning wheel of death) after changing playback engine settings.

LTC is just an audio signal that encodes time code.

You can feed this signal to the SYNC and Pro Tools can chase the LTC signal that way.

I see where the confusion comes in.

The Keyspan is an excellent device. This can be used for serial communication with a VTR/deck. The serial ports on the SYNC can also be used.

The SYNC (USD, SYNC I/O, or SYNC HD) has always been required to chase 9-pin serial time code.

It sounds like your DigiBase databases are corrupt.

You could try deleting them (or less drastically, move them somewhere and delete the originals, that way you can move the originals back).
