Re: Error Launching Video Engine

In the future, I would avoid doing an update in the middle of a project. There can be a lot of things that go wrong. It is not worth the risk. Updates can wait.

In my case, I try to have two...

Re: Kudos to Avid for 2022.9

Windows 10 works fine with Protools. You can search Microsoft to find what features are in Windows 11 and then decide if it is worth it for you to update.

I'm just playing with ya. I know you...

Re: 2022.9 is here!

Loaded PT 2022.9 on macOS 12.6 on both a 2017 Intel MacBook Pro i7 and a Mac Studio with M1 Max. Everything loads up so far. I still have some plugins to install on the Mac Studio but no errors when...

Re: HD Native Power Supply

That what I was thinking also. As for keeping the laptop plugged in, it seems that the batteries in modern laptops need to replaced in about 3-5 years regardless if they are allowed to run down...

Re: macOS Monterey 12.6

Just got a new Apple Mac Studio, upgraded to macOS 12.6, and installed Protools 2022.7 (Studio). All the basics seems to be running fine so far. I'm still installing my plugins and testing. I'll...

Re: Mac Studio - Separate Drive?

I did a little digging and found that it seems the Intel Macs with the T2 chips are the ones that have a security setting that prevents booting from an external drive. In other words:

A: Older...

Re: Import glitch

Hmm. I had a MacPro that was 4,1 but firmware upgraded to 5,1. It's been a while but if I recall, the RAM was oddly installed with six 1 GB sticks at the time or purchase. There are 8 memory...

Re: Import glitch

Are the tracks that you are importing from Protools? What version is the original source created from? Are there any plugin processing on the tracks? Is there any automation with the tracks? Are you...

Re: Import glitch

When importing, does it glitch at the same position every time (suggesting the issue with the file) or does the glitch occur at different positions each time (suggesting a problem with the import...

Re: First experience with NVMe M.2 in enclosure - bad.

Trying to get this thread back on track:

I know that the internal SSD in current Macs are wickedly fast. How does a single NVME Thunderbolt enclosure (no switch) with a NVME SSD (like a Samsung...

Re: Mac Studio - Separate Drive?

The need for a separate drive for recording sessions was originally due to the limited speed (read/write times and transfer times) of spinner hard drives. Today with SSD's (even the slower ones)...

Re: PT Artist-Full or dumb down version?

I found this on the knowledge base link and it looks like you need to choose the appropriate version of Protools that is compatible with the Sibelius version.

Re: PT Artist-Full or dumb down version?

It's been a long time since I used Protools LE 8.3 but a search reminded me that it supported 48 mono or stereo audio tracks. The current Protools Artist only supports 32 audio tracks. In my...

Re: First experience with NVMe M.2 in enclosure - bad.

Thanks again. This will be used for additional storage to keep my fast internal Apple SSD free for Protools sessions. I'm getting a Mac Studio with an 2TB internal drive and don't want to fill that...

Re: First experience with NVMe M.2 in enclosure - bad.

Thanks for sharing that Ben. I've been following this thread with the intent to get an external thunderbolt unit for adding an NVME SSD. I'm not looking at multiple NVME slots or more PCI-e slots,...

Re: How often does your Pro Tools crash on your Mac hardware?

I am also on the Mac platform. I'm more a hobbyist nowadays, but was doing studio work for the past 25 years. I can't remember the last time my Mac crashed due to Protools, (maybe 7 years ago?)....

Re: Anyone try M2 yet?

I'm assuming you mean that you can preconfigure the Apple Silicon Macs with a higher amount of RAM at time of purchase. The RAM is part of the SOC architecture and not a separate memory module or...

Re: M1 computer ok?

It is included with macOS (I think starting with Big Sur but it might have been there earlier). No need to "get" it. It is already in the operating system looking for any Intel code to run.

Re: M1 computer ok?

Protools 2022.6 & 2022.7 are compatible with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M1Pro, M1Max, and M1Ultra) BUT, It is not native. It is running under Rosetta2, an Intel translator. It still performs well. ...
