I love transintl.com. They usually have the latest chips and have great prices. I get my RAM from them too.
I have also had issues with OWC.

You need to install the digi core audio driver and select it as the input & output device in System Preferences / Sound first. It should then show up as you I/O in Garageband...

the Mbox automatically sends out the L/R mix to the S/PDIF. You shouldn't need to set anything up to get signal on them (unless you specifially have nothing sent to the L?R mix!)

Do you have a second drive in that machine? If so I would install OSX.2.8 (or whatever the compatability docs say for your system) on a seperate drive. I had no problems doing the dual boot...

if cost is equal, get the 867. The buss is faster than the older dual proc machines. And you'll use the extra ram very quickly.

you could easily get those track counts with that machine. I can get that much on my G4 550 powerbook with mbox using internal drive(7200rpm).

You do gain a power switch with the protools keyboard but you lose the eject button! This presents a problem with the new G4's.
(I now have two PT keyboards that are used on my office machines)

I used to enjoy the true Hotswapping as you mentioned on my G3 system w/Glyph 18 gig's in a Kensington tray until I made the stupid FWB to ATTO software change, now it works, but not as I'd like it...

The Glyph hotswap 18 gig's are what I use and I love them... You'd better get a soundproof box for them though 'coz they wail!!!
