Re: drawing notes in MIDI Editor problem

That could be pretty cool, though, if it were well implemented. Which I would not trust Avid to do, by the way. But one could imagine setting the key and entering chords in the ruler. Then a simple...

Re: drawing notes in MIDI Editor problem

No, not with a single click-drag. One MIDI note number per click.

Re: ProTools not seeing Google Drive in Workspaces...

THIS

We use GD to remote record talent. We create their tracking sessions in Google Drive in a useable directory that is shared with us. All they have to do is launch PT, open the session from the...

Re: Pro Tools Power User Editing - The Skunk Works Project

That's correct. I use Keyboard Maestro on my Mac at work. Use to use AHK on Windows at home but it was such a pain to maintain the scripts. It seemed like every single update of either Windows or Pro...

Re: Exporting mono tacks

Logic supports interleaved stereo files, and makes it trivially easy to separate them if needed. So why not send him a stereo file of the pair?

Re: Import MIDI tempo map to specific bar

On Mac, it used to be done with OMS, but that's probably obsolete now. I think Soundflower is a common choice. Come to think of it, Studio One can slave via ReWire, can't it? I know Reaper can.

Re: Import MIDI tempo map to specific bar

What Chevron suggested is what I actually meant - instead of assembling in PT, assemble in Studio One which is designed to handle strings of clips with separate tempo maps as I understand it (I've...

Re: Import MIDI tempo map to specific bar

How about the other way around? Line up all the segments on one Studio One timeline the way you want them to appear in PT, then export/import that? PT simply isn't the right tool for importing...

Re: Known plugin conflicts

Make sure it's the Pro version or at least V2. The original cleansweep does have some conflicts with newer stuff.

Re: Alesis SR-16 midi problem

Another workflow would be to forget the SR16's internal patterns, and use it as a drum sound module. Record the notes onto a MIDI track in PT.

Re: Alesis SR-16 midi problem

Wow, that's a very old unit. I used to use one with Studio Vision back in the mid 1990s.

I believe it responds to MIDI clock. In PT, Setup/MIDI/MIDI Beat Clock. Make sure it's turned on for the...

Re: Search and Key Commands

Great to hear! Here's hoping it means I don't have to keep paying for Keyboard Maestro.

Re: How to make the project tempo matching the midi performance?

In the absence of Melodyne (I assume the light version that comes with PT won't suffice) or Logic, the best way would be to go through your piano performance beat by beat, copying one note that lands...

Re: How to, force legato with CHORDS in Midi Editor?

I know of no way. That's a Logic/Cubase kind of thing.

Re: Monterey 12.3.1 Update

It may have been added to Catalina later. I didn't start having trouble with Time Machine backups failing in Catalina due to both disks having the same name until after Big Sur was released. I...

Re: 2021.12 Install on Mac Studio M1 Ultra

Wow, I'm glad I checked this thread. The trackball was the one thing I was still worried about. I've never found KensingtonWorks to be a problem except that they're slow to update it. Maybe the...

Re: Pan Depth/Law questions

Oh, I agree that it would make no difference to a mix that consisted only of static sine waves. And since all sound can be reduced to sine waves via FFT, it doesn't matter at all to a computer. Human...

Re: Lock clips to SMPTE position?

Rich is correct as long as you don't change your session's timecode start time. There is no feature in PT to lock something to a particular timecode position as such. But if timecode doesn't change...

Re: Pan Depth/Law questions

I get why that seems like it should be the case in theory. Simple math, right? Except that psychoacoustic perception must come into play somehow. I mixed hundreds of commercials during the 1990s and...

Re: Pan Depth/Law questions

I'm not convinced. I think the assertion that it doesn't matter is based on the simplistic assumption that no one ever moves pan positions during mix.

Re: 2021.12 Install on Mac Studio M1 Ultra

For Windows, yes. Not for Monterey. 28 separate downloads, each with its own installer. You can have Avid Link manage the downloads bit, but still must enter your password (or use Touch ID) for each...

Re: 2021.12 Install on Mac Studio M1 Ultra

There is a long list of separate installers to run to get Monterey compatibility for the whole set of Avid plugins.

I suspect that the corrective for small plugins is a large external display.

Re: Pan Depth/Law questions

It sure makes a difference if you have to mix for the possibility that some people will hear it in stereo and others in mono.

Re: 2021.12 / Izotope RX / Monterey

Yes, even on Catalina, though. So, it's RX9+PT causing the issue, not Monterey.

Re: Tempo ruler (possibly basic) question

That's one of the anomalies of they way PT handles tempo and meter. There are many others. Putting the intro in a separate session is probably the best thing to do. Bounce it out as 2-mix or stems...
