I've had the same problems (search DUC). I've got it pretty much under control now. One thing to check is if you go to vary the buffer if the distortion goes away for the next take. That worked...

Ahh so Windows Media Player can't play 48khz 24bit files?? I just always assumed WMP could handle everything...

Sorry I should've mentioned - the only things I record are via the Analog inputs - so using the mic preamp or just the standard 1/4 ins.
