The idea is that the is information is written to a smaller area. The mechanism has less of an area to try to read/write to/from.

Sounds like you didn't upgrade your version of ProTools to a version that works with your new Mac. See the Digi website for upgrade info. I believe you need at least version 7.1.1 for it to work.

Worst case, you could output from the headphone jack in real time.

Go to your I/O settings and make sure that PT is set to see inputs 1-8. You should then be able to choose from inputs 1-8 on individual or stereo tracks.

What kind of signal are you feeding into it? I know that they are unbalanced. They might not like seeing a hot input. Check the specs on Digi's site.
