Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Pretty sure you can download/install it with Native Access

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

My memory is a little hazy on this but something major was changed in Kontakt 6 which broke some compatibility with older versions. This is why K5 and K6 can coexist on the same system and 6 doesn’t...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

I’ve not used a second machine since getting a 2019 Mac Pro.

Apart from the VSL libraries I have a bunch of other stuff. Pretty much all the Spitfire libraries, both Kontakt (current version 6)...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

The iLok AAX versions of VE Pro and all the Synchron Players are working fine here in Pro Tools Ultimate so far. I’ve fully transitioned this week.

Old eLicenser VE Pro sever projects have...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

No not tried opening user presets yet but I have a lot of them to try! I have a massive download of the iLok libraries in progress so it will be a while before I can test.

I have most of the...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

I heard back from VSL so some bits of info in case anyone is interested.

AAX is supported by the latest iLok versions of VE Pro and Synchron Player.

The iLok Synchron Player will load presets...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

That’s not such a bad idea although the issue is disk space, it’s double the space and half as much again for the installers unless you buy the installer drive. You have to run one or the other...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Yes I do need to resolve the Vienna Helper app issue and yes their support is great! I’m not surprised they’re busy. As you say, the move to iLok is not working “perfectly”.

I wish they’d been...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

No I’ve not downloaded the iLok content yet so I went back to eLicenser versions of everything. It’s literally 100s of GB I need to re-download! All licences are transferred to my iLok. I did I...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Yes that’s the error message… multiple times for each instance! It was still happening here on Wednesday.

This was opening sessions with eLicenser VSL content which apparently is not possible....

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

It looks like the iLok version is only available via Vienna Assistant which has just been released in the last fortnight. The download from the VSL site is the eLicencer version.

The current...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Glad it’s going well.

A word of caution though. There are currently two versions of VE Pro, a legacy version that supports eLicencer authorisations and the new iLok version which is installed by...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

I’m just using powered USB 3.1 hubs. The Startech 7 port metal ones have worked very reliably here. One of them is plugged into a USB A port on my Mac Pro, the other a TB port which is backward...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

You don’t have to use RAID with the Sonnet card. Initially I had the four Samsung NVMe blades formatted as four separate volumes. I soon converted to one RAID 0 volume when I realised it was pretty...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

If you want to keep costs down and only need one HDX card, these work great. Earlier versions are qualified by Avid and still available.

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Yes. I have the Sonnet NVMe PCIe card for samples and for PT sessions a single NVMe on a dumb adapter card, one of these:...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

That is a bit confusing because it seems to imply there are two TB busses with two ports each. It certainly makes sense that you’d but HDX with plenty of bandwidth left for SSDs on one buss and NVMe...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Ha ha! Posts crossing. I certainly found SSD fast enough for PT sessions.

Yes I would be tempted with a second Sonnet NVMe box but I had a lot of SSDs to repurpose.

One thing to bear in mind...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

No not cheap I’m afraid but super high quality and importantly for me, it doesn’t have any fans.
When I went NVMe I repurposed my SSDs as backup drives with one of these:...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

I used to use the older TB2 version of this with my old Trashcan.

I had two of them and the SSDs were in RAID 0 pairs for samples...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

Actually now you mention it, SD3 was problematic here too and I had to re-download it. In my case I think it was because the original installation was from way before they introduced their...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

See my other post above about reinstalling libraries.

I would go with Sonnet over OWC, especially as the Sonnet M.2 4x4 is now fanless. Not that I’ve ever heard the fan in my older version that...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

I think you need to differentiate between the software/plug-in installations which I agree you need to do from scratch and the content/library installation which you don’t need to install from...
