PT 2021.10 and instability

So since updating, lots of things have become unstable. Sometimes opening a plugin window, notably Soundtoys’ Sta-Level clone and Kontakt, crashes ProTools now. And if it sits on unattended for too...

MIDI selection slowdown

Latest PT, MacOS Mojave. 2013 Mac Pro

When I have multiple tracks selected and visible in the MIDI editor, if I select notes and adjust for length with the Trim tool, there is a very long delay...

Avid CoreAudio drivers

I have an HDX/HD IO rig that I also use for IO with Cubase 11 via CoreAudio.

Ultimate 2021.7. Mojave. Cubase 11.0.10.321

When playing with VI's, I was finding the latency I was experiencing...

Re: USB 3.0 hub recommendations for Mac - 2021

Anyone know of one that will provide sufficient power to keep a 12” iPad going? I use the Sabrent one and it doesn’t have sufficient power to charge the iPad faster than it drains.

Re: MIDI in 2021 and BEYOND

Scripting for MIDI would be great. (Rule-based compensation for different instrument articulation delays would be amazing, so the ability to create these would take PT to a plane above.)...

Re: HDX/HDIO intermittent connection issues

All good suggestions.

Pitch flux means it slews like a tape machine if someone put a finger on it. Slows then resumes.

Bales? Typo. Cables is right.

Chassis is on its own buss. The...

HDX/HDIO intermittent connection issues

Hi folks.

I have a ticket out on this but wanted to see if anyone has had this.

2013 Mac Pro. 10.14.6. Latest PT and HD Driver. HDX card in a Sonnet PCIe thunderbolt 2 chassis.

I’m...

Re: Protools 2020 DAW midi controls?

If all you need is transport, you could use TouchOSC on a phone or tablet. TouchOSC sends not only midi commands but also keystrokes, so anything there’s a key for in Pro Tools can have a custom...

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

Hi Kyle - thanks for the reply.

I don’t mean to appear nitpicky, but what is the difference between “essentially class-compliant” and “class compliant?

This is exactly what I was...

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

I understand that it’s the idea, and yet somehow when I hear “that should work” that means no as far as my business goes - because without an explicit guarantee followed by evidence of people doing...

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

Thanks for posting the link - I’ll watch it. I just missed the webinar today. I asked the question and as I typed it, the guy said “looks like we are out of questions.” Funny.

Anyway, because I...

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

Agreed with a lot of that. Of course they designed something that only works with their stuff - but it’s not a universally “music” product if it depends on a daw that is unparalleled for tracking...

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

Also - no frame edge sync? I mean, I don’t chase to anything these days - it’s all the video engine (shudder) or pushing Video Slave. Is that even a thing with onboard video?

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

Not really. When the new PT installer is run, who’s to say they don’t put their driver for it in at that moment? This is their proprietary flavor of AVB. And two targets appear when you find it in...

Re: Subscription for Carbon driver?

I could be missing something here, but they don’t say class-compliant unless I missed it, and if it requires the latest software before use, couldn’t that be installing software, say, that...

Subscription for Carbon driver?

So there’s a whole lot of good and meh and unknown in the Carbon box, but I’m thinking about one thing mostly right now. Love the speed and the Ethernet interface. Wish it weren’t a proprietary...

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

It should work. Like HD drivers should work forever? If you have first-hand knowledge that it will remain supported or that drivers will be free, I’m happy to hear that. Otherwise...

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

Maybe for less-involved scenarios, but dedicated DSP still is very useful for people in certain situations (mixers in music and post). Things change but that doesn’t.

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

Now that it’s announced, and specs are there (coreaudio, <1ms latency, onboard DSP) I wonder this - if you are using it with another platform (Cubase etc.) and decide you no longer want the Pro Tools...

Re: Avid will announce new DSP product(s) next week!

I’ve avoided them in the past because of huge latency in the plugs (when used in PT anyway) because though that wasn’t an issue for mixing, it was for my composer template. I’m a little grey about...

Re: Pitch dips on HDIO?

It’s neither of those two. Though I wondered at first if it were Kontakt hiccuping because its SRC was wonky, I’ve heard it do it on audio-only sessions.

Pitch dips on HDIO?

2013 Mac Pro, HDX in a Sonnet chassis, HD|IO 16x16. No sync peripherals, no external word clock.

Any reason why sometimes the pitch of the session I’m on (VI’s and a couple of audio tracks)...

Re: Export video is crazy slow on 2020/Mojave

It eventually worked. But took three hours or so. Crazy.
