So, for posterity, the answer in my situation was to re-purchase the "Pro Tools 12 for Education Upgrade with Annual Upgrade Plan," complete with verification of eligibility, for $99 and re-install...

I had the same problem with my LaCie (purchased from LaCie, though). I simply removed the LaCie Firewire Support driver, and let the default OS drivers take over. Works fine now.
