Re: >Tracks vs. Voices? help!

Older mix systems work in the way you gave an example for.. If your voice max was 64, it just meant 64 tracks playing at one time, but you could have 128 active tracks, as long as you only had 64...

Re: OT: Mics (AKG 414/Neumann U87)

Great!! I can't wait.. I think the first thing I might use the U87 for is a Front Of Kit for a drum set.. Maybe 3 - 4 feet up, about 6 - 8 feet away.. and then maybe try the 414 for the same...

Re: Panther: Good Bye Digi !!

Also, everyone says that now Digi isn't supporting them..

The owner of the studio just ordered 2 new mic's.. Well, new to us, actually they are both vintage.. The neumann u87 is the original, with the battery powered supply, not the new Ai version.. and...

Re: NJ SOUND ENGINEER SEEKS SAME

I checked around, no one had any info or positions.. sorry man.. Vineland isn't really a good spot to look for studios.. Try more of a metro area.. Philly isn't too far away..

Re: Studio monitor advice??

I agree.. Save your money til you can get good monitors.. Go somewhere, and take some music that you know in and out and listen to it on them. If a place won't let you do that, they're not worth...

Re: Pod XT

The original Pod was VERY harsh.. That's the one that just has LED numbers, no LED screen. The PODXT isn't as harsh, but it still just doesn't have that "real"ness all the way down.. That's why...

Re: Pod XT

We have one at the studio for tracking purposes and sometimes we use it for actually recording.. It gets the most use while we have the whole band there, trying to get scratch tracks for everyone...

Re: Free phase checking plugin?

Well, it depends how you mix it.. I know for XY stuff I usually use our matched set of C1000S's.. Because I usually pan the overheads so I know that they'll both sound similar.. I'd say try it...

Re: Free phase checking plugin?

You'll know if you're out of phase. It just sounds thinner, and odd.. Try making things out of phase, and listening to them.. Take a track of something, then duplicate it and nudge it back or...

Re: D.I. Y. Home Studio Acoustics

Yes, but as long as the walls are still attached to the original floor, you'll still get vibrations there.. The ceiling is low already, and I doubt floating the floor in a home studio is an option.....

Re: setting up 002R + patchbay

Well.. I just labeled 16 snakes.. We put in all new snakes because we switched from ADATs (RCA on back) to HD24's (TRS).. It's nice to have a balanced cable now.. But, that was a LOT of work, and...

Re: Are people using expanders and gates on...

I'm just using gates on the toms.. it's decently easy to get those to open and close at the right times.. best of all, I have drawmer gates so I can set the frequency key to the tom and let it open...
