Ok, it sorted out by installing 7.1.1cs9. People suggested a clean install of pt on the LE page, so I thought I'd try this and bingo....

Just installed PT m-powered 7.1.1 for intel, on a macbook 1.83 intel core duo, 512mb, osx10.4.6, and opened some old sessions. All fine except the markers were not imported, so I manually inserted...

JoePaz, do you know how the pre's on the 1814 compare to the 001, mbox, and 002r? The 1814 looks ideal to replace my 001 if the pre's are at least the same....btw, for you other guys, the behringer...

davetron - no need to group your gtr and aux tracks - if you hold the apple key+click the solo button of your aux it'll stay soloed when you solo your gtr tracks. Also cool on a reverb aux.

Thanks for the replies, I used a borrowed Fatman on a variety of sources for a few days on a project I was doing a couple of years ago, but the client didn't really go for it - I thought it was ok....

I regularly email bass parts (DI and amp) with no loss, but as where points out there are file size restrictions (my isp's is 50meg). If I need to I send them separately later on.
