Re: Clips move oddity

I have seen this happen on a Windows 10 system, but with an AMD GPU. In this case, I thought it was the AMD drivers that caused it. It started just after the system was upgraded to 2018.7.

I have...

Re: Off line bounce lags for 40 sec

Are you running HDX and DSP plug-ins? If so, Pro Tools will have to convert them all to Native before it can start the bounce.

Re: LUFS Metering in Pro Tools

I've never had a mix rejected that's been measured with zplane PPMUlator.

I can't say the same for Nugen, iZotope or Avid (ProLimiter, Loudness Analyser) however.

That's just my experience,...

Re: Focusrite d2d3 Update possible?

It was the digital equivalent of DC - caused a "boof" noise when bypassed or muted, and registered on bus meters. They were also a classic example of being fooled into thinking they sounded OK purely...

Re: Focusrite d2d3 Update possible?

It was over ten years ago, on a TDM hd3 system, that sounded damned awful anyway. The dreadful Focusrite plug-ins just made it much worse. Things are so much better now.

Re: Focusrite d2d3 Update possible?

I stopped using the Focusrite plug-ins as soon as I realised they were actually adding noise. That's unforgivable for a plug-in, especially in a busy post production session, where you could be using...

Re: Focusrite d2d3 Update possible?

And for EQ / Dynamics, Fabfilter is the droid you're looking for. Even the Avid EQ3-7 is light years better than the Focusrite, as is ProCompressor. Just because they look like the Focusrite Red...

Re: Focusrite d2d3 Update possible?

Completely agree. If you think Realverb is the best surround reverb ever, you can't have heard Phoenixverb, Indoor or even Revibe2.

I really wouldn't bother - they're terrible.

Re: Avid Video Engine using 2GB of RAM?

Or, have a decent GPU installed. Makes a hell of a difference.

Re: Pro Tools 12.4 (and older) or 12.5 on Windows 10

Windows is generally much better for legacy compatibility than OSX

Re: Pro Tools 12.4 (and older) or 12.5 on Windows 10

+1 for 12.4 / Win 10 Pro. Avid's "lack of support" for Win10 was nothing more than BS.

Re: Most stable simple interface under Windows 10

RME have outstanding legacy support. They still support the original Fireface interface for all modern operating systems and indeed upgraded the original TotalMix to include features from the latest...

Re: Make Video Satellite Function HD-hardware independent

The reason for Video Satellite being hardware dependent is down to syncs. All systems need to be locked to the same sync ref. Of course, Avid could fix this by sending syncs over the ethernet to...

Re: Thunderbolt : HDMI & Audio 5.1 Out ?

When you output through a GPU, Macs treat the embedded audio output as Core Audio and you can set a buffer in Pro Tools. However because of this, sync on "desktop" video and audio output is...

Re: Thunderbolt : HDMI & Audio 5.1 Out ?

The problem with BM and AJA cards is that they are designed to output a HDMI / SDI video stream absolutely in sync with the audio. Pro Tools requires a playback buffer. Neither the BM or AJA can act...

Re: Most stable simple interface under Windows 10

RME for Windows every time. They've developed their own USB drivers. My 802 is rock solid. Not cheap but if you want an ultra reliable work horse RME is your way forward.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools

Pro Tools for the Windows used to come bundled with Macdrive. I switched to Paragon a while back after Macdrive became really flaky.

Re: I disabled Turbo Boost and Pro Tools seems more stable

That makes sense. 11 onwards dynamically assigns resources, so if those resources run out, say if turbo is busy on something else you're more information likely to get errors.

Re: Windows 10 Home or Pro

Have always gone with the Pro versions of Windows. I think you're more in control of background updates in Win 10 Pro.

Re: Blue Mode ?

One thing to remember is that HDX cards can only do so much - the design and chips are now reasonably old (in computer terms). To get around the glitches Avid have had to have a rethink of the...
