Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

To be fair, the spec for 2.0 was out in 2020 and there was some kind of thing last year that brought it closer to reality. But regardless it's a total irrelevance to this thread that Janne threw up...

Re: Big computer woes and midi

Out of interest, try your internal audio. I have no issues on a basic M2 Macbook Air just using the built in device (or using my RME Babyface). I know the Tascam at least is very much a bottom-rung...

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

For the final time - there is zero connection between midi 2.0 and having more midi tracks in PT.

None.

Zip.

Zilch.

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

Oh my good lord

Avid have just made a large number of midi improvements in 2024.3, and they've said more to come.

Well, your attitude on this is a complete mystery to me, but there we are.

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

Sileblius is completely irrelevant. That's a notation editor, which can then pass on the files to Pro Tools.

I'm not sure why you're so keen to minimise and deflect this issue? Again, as kindly as...

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

No need to wait for Midi 2.0 implementation - it has nothing whatsoever to do with the maximum number of midi tracks. This could be done in the next release as it's likely no more than a checkbox...

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

16 instruments per instrument?! Eh?

You are a super intelligent guy, but c'mon. Even by your own logic - PT must stick to standards - you now say they are 4x over those standards.

But more to...

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

Oh puh-lease.

From what you said, the limit is in PT only being able to address 64 instruments. That's not in any midi spec.

Re: Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

Indeed.

But maybe JFreak is pointing to other structural problems with PT that other DAWs don't have if there's a hard limit of 64 devices internally. Or if that limit is arbitary, then increase...

Why the limit on number of midi tracks?

1024 midi tracks may seem a lot to many PT users. But composers using VIs - especially those using large VE Pro templates - routinely use over this number, sometimes into the several thousands.

Re: Upcoming Price Adjustments

Yes, this is the sensible way forward. The removal of the dreaded reinstatement fee means Avid are more or less encouraging this approach. They are counting on the combination of Inner Circle rewards...

Re: Lots of Pace Errors Today 4.10.24, anyone else ?

AFAIK permanent licenses on a physical iLok are reliable, but subs on a physical iLok might be more vulnerable if you're renewing at the wrong time. Also it's the big downside of ZDT TLC - you could...

Re: Upcoming Price Adjustments

It’s almost the opposite in my experience. Pros are slow to update - they prize reliability over new bells and whistles. When professionals hit a version that works for them, there is a tendency to...

Re: Upcoming Price Adjustments

A few thoughts…

1. On the plus side, I’ve seen a huge change for the better in Avid customer relations in the past year. Marianna and the others are doing excellent work, followed up well by...

Re: iLok Cloud always being stolen by other computer

Looks like the cause is UA Connect. I only have the free LA-2A which doesn't in my case doesn't use iLok Cloud at all, yet it was likely the thing that was auto-running in the background and stealing...

Re: PT 2024.3 | Released

What would be great is a micro S1 - just 8 good faders, function buttons (aux, send etc) and a holder for a 10.2 inch iPad. Same dimensions as the iPad.

If they made that for $600, I'd sell my S1...

I only have RX9 - just checekd Ambience Match and Connect and they seem to be working normally with handles.

Re: iLok Cloud always being stolen by other computer

So far so good, thanks - obviously it's less than ideal but an improvement on how things are currently.

It almost feels to me as if there is a background process on the PC which is somehow opening...

Re: PT 2024.3 - Mac Efficiency Cores In Play?

Well... maybe, maybe not...

It has been claimed that the cores appearing on the meters are nothing more than a useless visualisation and nothing has changed under the hood.

It's complicated and...

Re: Only 4 cores system usage on M1 Macs

Until we hear something meaningful from Avid, almost everything is suspect at the moment. Janne claims that nothing has changed processing-wise, so any effects we think we see are illusiorary. My own...

Re: Only 4 cores system usage on M1 Macs

Well how utterly bizarre. Time for some quick tests.

I just put a ton of the heaviest CPU plugins I own into a project - on playback the PT meters were showing the highest at 25% and lowest at...

Re: iLok Cloud always being stolen by other computer

Nope, Intro is back.

It's very weird. I opened and closed PT on the PC, restarted the PC, opened iLok on the Mac, all fine. I opened iLok manager on the PC, cloud session was closed, closed the...

Re: Only 4 cores system usage on M1 Macs

Okay, so to be clear - you're saying that the meters used to be useful, but now they are junk and do not give any information whatsoever regarding actual core use? They are a visualisation toy?
