Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

The Zotac GT430 is a good card for PT. It has dual DVI output, good if your using 2 monitors with a DVI inputs. There is no interaction or speed relation between your DDR3 1600 RAM and the GPU's on...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Beefy is good, but too big isn't. The Seasonic X560 gold (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151098) has 46A on a single rail. It cost ~$60 less than the Corsair 850 gold. The...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Many Z68 boards have known issues. If anything go with a P67 board. Known to work are Intel DP67BG and Asus P67 Pro or abouve.

You'll need a dedicated audio drive. I only see one in your list.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

The UD5 had known issues in the past with noises in DAW. I'd stay away. If you can't get your hands on a UD3R then you can try the Asus P6T.

That cooler is not a good choice IMO. Try the...

Philip, how about Antec p183? The new p280 also looks good though I haven't used it.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Very nice build,

I'd stay away from overclocking your video card. The amount of added heat and power consumption is gonna shorten its life and may affect other components as well (PSU, MOBO...)....

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

+1 Congrads on first known working PTLE 8+ X79 build :-). Please keep us posted on performance and issues (if you ever have any...). Proper D-verb test is detailed on the first page of this thread....

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Motherboard is a good choice. Nothing wrong with an SSD for a system disk, regardless always keep a system image to be safe.
RAID? Even though Hardware RAID1 might work I haven't tested it for...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

http://www.seasonicusa.com/S12II-Bronze.htm

The S12 II 620 delivers 48 Amps on the 12V rail (576W). This should be more than enough to power the proposed system.

I estimate up to ~250W at...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Good choices for the most part and good advice from filosofem and guitardom. I've used the Giga X58A motherboard on many builds, one just last week.

I do have some of my own $0.02 for ya

Home Theater PC.

Thats a good idea. Tell to copy one of those builds to the letter and you'll be good to go.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Hi,

Nice build for an HTPC, But seriously at some point one has to decide what the build is intended for. This build, while it might be able to run PT is far from ideal.

Start with an Intel...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Looks like your overclock to 4 ghz is unstable. This can be because of insufficient voltage or cooling. Try running at CPU's stock speed first.

Re: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5

Triple CF is only good for gaming (and even then it doesn't scale 1:1)

UD3 should be enough, I've used it for many Avid Media Composer builds. Its up to you and your $.
DDR3 is fine @ 1600....

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I'm with albee on the chipset. Go with P67.

The video card is overkill. If you aren't gonna play games on this machine you will be much better off with a cooler+less power hungry+cheaper+quiet...

Re: i7 Build - Any suggestions more than welcome for what I'm working on

Sixfold,

I'd go with the X58A UD3R just cause I've used it in so many builds and it always works. As you mentioned many others are using it too. And even if you do have some cash to drop on...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Differences are ability to OC and a better integrated GPU in the K. Since you'll be using a dedicated GPU and don't plan to OC you can definitely go for the non K version.

BTW it is still...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Stock HS is not recommended in my book. It can get loud during load and its cooling ability is very limited.

If saving money is the goal, go with one of the cheaper tower coolers like the...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

The Intel DP67BGB3 mobo has an internal header that you can connect to a front panel of your case or buy a bracket for the rear panel slots. Or buy an approved firewire PCI card.

PSU is a bit...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I agree. Replacing the motherboard seem excessive. Swap your CPU to 970 only if you are low on CPU%. But if you really need the CPU upgrade I suggest waiting for the next gen socket 2011 CPUs that...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

A few builders, myself included have had very good 'luck' with P67 based boards from Intel and Asus (even an Asrock, I think). Add a $30 Nvidia Video card and your good to go.

There is no real...
