Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

That brings back memories. Had to turn the monitors up just to drown the noise of that machine. She was slick for it's time, that's for sure.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Core i7-3770K (22nm Ivy Bridge) like other supported LGA1155 chipsets host on-die graphic processors which are not recommended by Avid. Core i7-3930K however do not host on-die graphic processors...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Personally Dorian, I would wait for restock of the Workstation board but if you cannot double check that memory is listed on the ASUS website for that specific motherboard.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Happy happy, joy joy. Ummm... for audio use, there is no need to OC in general at X79 level but you do still need very good cooling systems in place. The cooler your system, the better your system...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I hope X79 on ASUS serves you better than X58 on Gigabyte. ;)

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Even with the software only Mercury Playback Engine supported in Premiere Pro CS6 that GTX 560 is still going to drop frames at 1080p30 1/4 playback.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

I would suggest you match your specs with Avid's MC in the first instance. NLE's are not like DAW's. Some have very specific specifications.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

That's not correct, current high-end enthusiasts desktop processors do not support on-die GPU (X58 and X79). That includes given past precedence Ivy-Bridge E for LGA 2011 will follow suit. I agree...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

That maybe the case but LGA 1155 socket chipsets host on-die GPU's something Avid does not approve. Pro Tools is so particular about graphics cards that it really is buyer beware. At least with X58...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Second that. I started with Radeon but switched to GeForce and simply experienced less issues. Nvidia drivers also see frequent revisions too.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

API The Channel Strip hosts a 550A. Surely that would make a good enough frontend.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Only one exception Avid have not Qualified SSD's for system nor audio drives. Users do so at their own risk. Regarding the Nvidia graphics card, GeForce GTX 400 series low spec would be fine.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Lemec, I have shared my opinion regarding EX58 motherboard, please read what I said carefully. And LGA 2011 X79 Patsburg processors are working well with Pro Tools. The DUC has reported a small hand...

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

Hello lemec

Yeah that motherboard is a little long in the tooth, yes its tested and proven to work well with Pro Tools but more suitable revisions have been made around the X58 chipset....

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

For Pro Tools only 2GB GPU on-board RAM is over kill but the GeForce GT graphics cards seem to work quite well with Pro Tools.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

If Pro Tools is all that is used try a low spec Radeon HD 5000 series. Alternatively, Nvidia GTX 200 - 400 series also works. My pick would be Nvidia.
