Yeah try trashing prefs and databases definitely. I had a similar problem once that was easily solved by doing just that.

And definitely invest in another hard drive to record to like spkguitar...

you can just go to the digidesign store and get 8 for 150 (about that). if you've got the hardware, you're good to go. you don't need 7.4. you can go straight to 8.

Does it crash when loading plug ins? If so, try to move all of the plug ins out of the plug in folder and open PT. If it works, it was a plug in. Just put them back in the folder a few at a time...
