Re: ARA2 Melodyne support coming to next version of Pro Tools

Itís kind of working already I suppose, at least at basic level. Iím inclined to think it was a good move to integrate Melodyne in stages. The audio to MIDI conversion thing seems quite stable so...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Thereís no problem at all doing it on a Mac. I and many others have been doing it for years. If youíre really paranoid you can use the PT Prefs app to backup all the pref files etc. so you can revert...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Ha! Those mixes that wonít go away!

If my memory serves me correctly (pun intended,) the Kontakt default of 60KB was a throwback to the age of ďspinningĒ hard drives. NI have specifically said you...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

I tried decreasing the Kontakt preload buffer from the default 60KB to 24KB and it didnít seem to adversely affect streaming performance much. It did save a big chunk of RAM. This is streaming from a...

Re: 25 seconds for save a session with virtual insert

Itís been a while since Iíve used EW VIs but one of the reasons I gave up was that saving and auto-saving in Pro Tools took so long. Obviously Pro Tools saves the status of any instantiated plug-in...

Re: Questions about new Mac studios

That doesnít sound right unless itís using a SATA NVMe. If youíre measuring with BlackMagic Speed Test at the default settings the Sonnet card should be reading around 8000MB/s for four drives in...

Re: How to downgrade from an unwanted Control App upgrade

Yes turn off Auto Update!

To SD2 - it is actually possible to revert to a previous version if you keep regular iPad backups and then ďrestoreĒ from a backup earlier than the unwanted update. This...

Re: New to MIDI - note lengthen problem

That looks like a double note event is being recorded. This usually happens as a result of a MIDI loop or perhaps a MIDI controller sending out the same note on two different zones.

Re: iPad battery drain with wifi and Avid Control

Iím not getting this issue but my iPad/Avid Control isnít connected via WiFi. Itís hardwired to the Mac with a Lightning to Ethernet adapter which has a Lightning pass thru connector for power....

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Thatís a big difference!

Pro Tools, as far as I understand it has two buffers. The buffer you can set which applies to record enabled/input monitored/MIDI thru enabled tracks and a separate, much...

Re: Apple Studio/Mini - What bits we need

I think seek time is underestimated, especially for sample streaming.

Iím sure Darryl will correct me if Iím wrong on this but.. another misconception is how the measured/quoted speeds of NVMe...

The article on PT Expert says I ďrecommendedĒ the Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock. Iím not sure I did because I donít have one! I suggested it was a...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Indeed. Iíve taken a long hard look at the Mac Studio, mainly so I can get off the Intel boat and move on my 2019 Mac Pro while it still has some value. Also the single core performance with Apple...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Eric
Iím not loading everything into RAM, far from it! Still streaming like a boss here from NVMe on a Sonnet card. My current template is using around 200GB of RAM though just for the preloading...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Thanks Michael. Interesting stuff.

The big question for me is how much unified memory Apple can realistically fit on Apple Silicon without it being horribly expensive. The current max of 128GB is...

Re: Migrating VI's from old Mac Pro to Mac Studio Ultra

My memory is a little hazy on this but something major was changed in Kontakt 6 which broke some compatibility with older versions. This is why K5 and K6 can coexist on the same system and 6 doesnít...
