The one and only thing that I use Soundminer for is looking up SFX (based on keywords) and spotting them to my PT timeline. I do not use any of SM's editorial, batch conversion, sampling, etc......

i highly recommend SoX (http://sox.sourceforge.net) for such tasks. it's a command line tool (no GUI) but very powerful, can do all of the things you are asking, and you can't beat the price ($0).

when leaving for the night, i always leave my S6 in "Screening Mode" (/Settings/System/Brightness/). then simply touch the MTM screen the next morning to wake it up.
