I like the idea of always reverting back to the EQ view of the selected channel after working in dynamics. I don't know about others, but I spend significantly more time in the EQ window...

Check your right offset setting on that fader. AFAIK, the blinking indicates that there is some right offset dialed in.

Perhaps Sheldon has a better answer, but if you have two open mono input channels, that is probably the best way to accomplish what you're wanting.

Are the specs different between the DSO cards and the Digital outs in the FOH rack? Our HHB CD-R works great with a AES in from the DSO channels in our stage rack.
