Re: G5 Mac Pro ... What would you do?

I'd avoid the liquid-cooled Macs. It's a disaster when they spring a leak, the design was a mistake.

Re: Macbook Air

Mostly true - but don't kid yourself into believing that, for instance, Logic works perfectly. Never has, probably never will.

Re: Latency: Optical in vs. Analog in

2-4 samples isn't a problem, but I don't think you'll find many interfaces with 2-4 sample conversion delays. If I recall correctly, just using a loopback cable on the Digi 002 S/PDIF introduced an...

Re: Latency: Optical in vs. Analog in

Digi support person - why not pass the word up that it would be good to allow the user to measure and configure the conversion delay for third party connected devices, so that this would work...

Re: Firewire cable for DIGI 003 (really long one)

Or a hub. Yes, it should work. Maybe somebody here has a recommendation for something they've actually used for a while and found reliable.

Re: Firewire cable for DIGI 003 (really long one)

Maximum cable length is defined in the Firewire standard as 4.5 meters. www.unibrain.com (http://www.unibrain.com) sells cables which they claim work correctly at 10 meters, due to improved materials...

Re: low latency monitoring to any output?

The low latency monitoring feature is only for the main outputs (1-2).

Re: Seventh Circle Audio

I built a bunch of them a few years back. Amazing quality for the price, if you're competent at assembly.

Re: headphone amp

Correct.

I used an 002 with 4700, and I did exactly that. Main output (1-2) went to the headphone amp, and the monitor outputs went to my monitor setup. No changes were needed in I/O setup.

Re: TDM vs rtas processing?

TDM uses a 48-bit integer mixer. ProTools LE uses 32-bit floating point.

Re: re-recorded tracks early by 34 samples ?

All converters have a conversion delay. ProTools corrects for the conversion delay in the built-in converters, but doesn't do it for converters on S/PDIF or optical.

If Digidesign wanted to get...

Re: 003 zero latency; Mix/Playback?

Yes, that's true. When I was using digi 002, I just kep my buffer at 128 or below, and rarely used low latency monitoring, since I was using Amplitube.

Re: 003 zero latency; Mix/Playback?

People, look in the manual for Low Latency Monitoring. It's a feature of Digi 001, 002, 003 and Mbox 2 PRO, and it's exactly what you're looking for. It's more convenient than the (cheaper to...

Re: 003 zero latency; Mix/Playback?

Use Low Latency Monitoring. It's not quite the same as software monitoring, as the monitored signal doesn't make the trip through the computer - monitoring is done in the interface.

Re: Is the .002 harness issue resolved with the .003

I hope they're different inside - and I'd hope that Digidesign didn't choose connectors prone to galvanic corrosion again.

Re: It\'s getting rediculous now

Does the Mbox 2 Pro appear in System Profiler? If not, the problem isn't caused by the software you've installed.

Have you tried using the AC power supply for the Mbox 2 Pro?

Re: Using other hardware w/PTLE - it can be done!

OK, you brought the signal in on plugins on 14 AUX tracks - but how did you get it to record those signals to disk?

Re: How to use an external device on 003

It would cost money. Everything about the Digi LE interfaces is about cheap.

Re: What\'s the next step for Digidesign?

Ignoring the limitations and missing features in ProTools LE, I still just wish they'd do an LE interface that isn't weak in comparison to many other cheaper interfaces available for all the other...

Re: Firewire Drive Defragment Software?

Easiest would be to just buy another cheap, large external hard drive. Copy to it, erase original disk, copy back. No fragmentation.

Re: PPC quad and number of RTAS processors

He might be mistaken - the Quad was introduced after the release of 10.4, the first Quads shipped with 10.4.2. I don't even know if any 10.3 version will run on a Quad...

Re: Latency problem

I assume (incorrectly?) that the 003 has the same Low Latency Monitoring feature as the 002. This is DSP-assisted monitoring in the interface itself, and delivers lower latency than the lowest buffer...

Re: 10.4.10 Here we go again

Then you should install it, and check the versions, like I did. 10.4.10 installs a 2.x Firewire Audio driver... which I'm guessing is a release of the FW audio driver beta that's been used by Apogee...

Re: 10.4.10 Here we go again

Definitely new FW audio and MLAN drivers in 10.4.10, probably not relevant to most ProTools users. (I don't recall, does the Mbox 2 Pro use OS X's buit-in FW audio driver?)
