I just built a similar setup and it's working great. The dual-boot idea is crucial: I've got one system specifically for Pro Tools, and it doesn't have the Microsoft Office crap or networking stuff...

Thanks for the advice, Greg. This sounds similar to what I experienced with my Dell: I believe it has something to do with XP Pro (at least that is what Dell said) and 32-bit processing.
