My experience was the same. I expected that adding an external firewire 7200rpm Hard Drive to the single internal 4200rpm would make things even better.
No difference in the DaveC, or anything...

Tatsi was able to get 32+15 (maybe it was more with a few tweaks?) with his 800 1.7 Centrino series ACER travelmate on the DaveC with 128 Buffer (DaveC specifies 1024?):

Using round robbin in PT Disk Allocation and having disenabled windows messenger and all the remaining smart card and infrared readers that were still lurking around I was able to get still one more...

I disabled paging file on the ACER 662 Lci. It gave me one more track on the DaveC. Defragmenting the hard drive gave another.. My DaveC varies by a track or two depending on the day it seems. Maybe...
