Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

it's all good Rick:-) just for clarity sake, the i7 thread was started to address/document the i7/x58 chipset/1366 socket builds. so even tho the i7/P55 chipset/1156 socket came on the scene...

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

hey Rick. you know i really don't get how the thread can be sooo outdated when the X58 chipset and 1366 socket are very much still the thing to go after (if budget allows). there are 4 of the latest...

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

XMPs are a good place to start BUT you gotta watch what they do to your voltages and temps. AUTO settings 'generally' make things run hotter 'cause the voltages are 'typically' set higher. so findin'...

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

the key is the mobo you're usin'...that's the guide. usually the ram timings are locked into the FSB...unless you unlock them, which is NOT advised. as a general rule the more you OC your ram the...

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

man i changed everythin'..just about. my approach was/is to open up the FSB as much as possible...not so much cpu speed. so i go for the fastest FSB and adjust cpu speed from there. so i dropped my...

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

agree with Mano for the most part. Q6600 is very dated at this point. but so is the rest of the Qxxx series...pretty much. IIRC Q6600 (which i still have as my DAW) has a lower FSB but higher cpu...

Re: Best Core 2 Series Desktops-Results and Specs

i OC my rig to 3.1 (7*442) and my temps are like yours...mid 30's on idle and low 50's on max load. don't forget that PT8 cut DVERB test scores waaaaaay down. grab the 7.4 dverb if you want to...

Re: newb

unless you slipped-streamed the AHCI SATA controllers onto your install disc, i'm talkin' XP here, then you would not have the capability to run your SATA drives in anythin' other than IDE mode. and...

Re: newb

at this point you probably don't even need to worry about the stepping then. however, i would invest in a non-stock cpu heatsink/fan especially if the Q6600 is the earlier stepping. but as late in...

Re: newb

so far i think you get the top prize for build costs!!:D tho it's a 'dated' build, everythin' looks good to me. X38 chipset should be a go...used in other builds. i'll be curious to see the DDR3...
